Our Equipment is Simply the Best...
The Supply Boats - Our custom-designed supply pontoon boats carry the wilderness kitchen, all the guest duffles, ice chests, and other camp gear. This allows our guest boats to stay open and free of clutter for a much better ride and a more spacious feeling. Each morning the supply boat is loaded with all the camp gear, and one of the guides takes the boat to our next camp. The supply boat arrives well ahead of the guests. Upon your arrival at camp each day, you'll find the site completely set up, even your tent will be up, and hot or cold drinks will be waiting. What a life!
The Paddle Boats - For those who want to experience the thrills of navigating the rapids with the other guests, the paddle boat can't be beat! You will learn to paddle in unison with your Mackay guide's instructions, and in no time, run the whitewater like pros.
The Oar Boats - Great for fishing, photography, or just relaxing and letting your guide do all the work. These boats offer front and rear padded seats, and lots of room to move about. There is always an ice chest aboard to keep your favorite beverages cold.
The Inflatable Kayaks - If the rapids just don't seem big enough for you, or lack excitement...try one of these on for size! Words can't describe the thrill of navigating your own kayak down one of the world's premier whitewater rivers. Our guides are all seasoned veterans, and are able to share their experiences as well as keep a watchful eye on you as you test your skills in rapids with names like "Split Rock," "Devil's Tooth," and "Velvet Falls!"
The Fishing Rafts - Our custom designed fishing rafts include swivel-padded seats front and rear. These fishing boats are designed for the serious fly fisher on Idaho's world renowned Middle Fork of the Salmon. To maximize the fishing experience, we maintain a 2 to 1 guest-to-guide ratio. Our guides are expert fly fishing instructors and they know where the fish are. Catching the fish, however, is still up to you!
Our Camp...
Camping equipment - On all of our trips we provide EVERYTHING you'll need except, of course, personal clothing and toiletry items. Our Sierra Designs(tm) tents are top-of-the-line roomy 4-person models (one for each couple). Each tent includes an additional rain fly for the occasional mountain shower. Each guest receives a complete sleeping package which includes a freshly laundered Sierra Designs(tm) sleeping bag (zip together for couples), a camp pillow, and a thick self-inflating air mattress.
A diet that's good and good for you - You won't believe you are hundreds of miles from civilization when you sit down to one of the original Mackay menu favorites! Careful planning and attention to detail has allowed us a wide latitude on our menu selections, all of which are unanimous favorites. You'll find our camp cuisine contains a healthy balance of fresh meats, fish and poultry, as well as fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. In addition, each evening meal is preceded by scrumptious hors d'oeuvres, capped off with a freshly-baked warm pastry for dessert. Fine wines accompany these gourmet delights. We offer a flexible menu that varies to reflect our guests' preferences and dietary requirements.
The kitchen of kings - Our wilderness kitchen has been custom-designed for the preparation of gourmet meals that rival their city counterparts. All Mackay guides take special pride in food preparation. We have found the dutch oven to be ideal for outdoor cooking and have perfected its use. We also supply dining tables and chairs to make your meal an unforgettable and comfortable dining experience.
Sanitary wilderness restroom and shower facilities - At the primitive sites offered on both rivers, we provide our own custom designed "wilderness restroom and hot water shower" with privacy shelter. Our many years of guiding on these rivers has led us to this design, providing our guests with the maximum degree of comfort and privacy, while still preserving some of the most pristine wilderness found in the lower 48 states.
